Business Name

A Business Name, also known as a trading name, is a name or title under which a person, or other legal entity, trades. If you register a Business Name, it will be connected to your ABN or the ABN of your company. To register a business, to register a business name or to register a trading name is virtually the same thing.

Business Names are frequently utilised by companies to administer their activities under a simpler brand as opposed to using their legal name for all marketing material and public communications, or when a preferred legal name is not available for registration.

Business Names do not create legal entities in and of themselves; they are merely names assumed by existing persons or entities.

You will need to register a business name if you carry on business within Australia and are not trading under your own name.
